Although we are heading into the age of everything-is-wireless, it’s still a little impossible NOT to have wires get tangled every now and again. I’m always afraid to look behind our television or take a peek behind the desk in our office. What I would find would be a mess of wires and cables that would require a huge amount of effort to untangle! I’ve scoured the internet for you and have rounded up the best ways to manage those cables and keep things tidy.
You wouldn’t think it would be a difficult task to keep things neatly organized when it came to wires, but the cables just keep piling up and wrapping around each other. Use a little bit of washi tape to keep things organized! Wrap wires in specific colors to help you decode the mess when you’re searching for the plug from the DVD player. For example, wrap the wires that from the cable box in blue washi tape, the wires from the TV in red washi tape, and the wires from the DVD player in polka dot washi tape! Things will be colorfully coded and you’ll be able to skip the headache next time you go searching.
If you’re more concerned about the big mess rather than the tangle situation, consider ordering a bamboo cord box for each cord you have. Things will be kept neatly hidden in a box that can double as décor!
What about the cords that aren’t in use? If you’re moving or putting electronics in storage, place the cords in plastic bags. If you’re packing up a playstation, place every cord that goes with it in a gallon-size plastic bag with a label marked “playstation.” Do this for every electronic item you’ll be storing.
The Cordies Cable Organizer by Quirky is an excellent solution to the tangle trauma that will inevitably occur. The set of 5 allows you to keep cords stationed in one convenient spot. It’s an excellent addition to a desktop or workspace and will save you from future cord-related headaches. It’s an affordable solution that no office should be without.
Here are a few other quick solutions you can DIY:
- Braid wires together into one long and tidy rope
- Use bread tabs to keep the ends of wires neatly organized and easy to reach
- Feed cables into a paper towel or toilet paper tube
- Feed cables into PVC pipe
- Use suction cups found at the grocery store (or attached to car window puppets) to attach your cables almost anywhere
